JAKARTA, Indonesia — The United States Embassy in Jakarta has issued a security advisory urging American citizens in Indonesia, particularly those in Jakarta, to avoid crowds and protest locations ahead of demonstrations scheduled for Thursday, August 27, 2026.
According to the advisory released on Wednesday, August 26, demonstrations are expected to take place at several locations across Indonesia. In Jakarta, one of the main areas identified is the DPR/MPR complex in Senayan, where protesters are expected to gather from around 10:00 a.m. local time.
US Embassy Warns of Traffic Disruptions
The US Embassy said demonstrations could lead to increased police presence, road closures and significant traffic disruptions.
The embassy also warned that even demonstrations initially intended to be peaceful could potentially escalate into disorder or violence.
American citizens in Jakarta have therefore been advised to stay away from the area surrounding the DPR/MPR complex and other locations where demonstrations are taking place.
The embassy also encouraged US citizens to:
- Avoid crowds and demonstrations.
- Monitor local media for the latest information.
- Allow additional travel time because of possible road closures.
- Follow instructions from local authorities.
- Remain alert and pay attention to their surroundings.
Protest Scheduled at Indonesia’s Parliament
The demonstration at the DPR building on August 27 is expected to involve several community groups.
One group mentioned in connection with the protest is the Aliansi Masyarakat Pati Bersatu (AMPB).
Among the demands expected to be raised is a call for the Indonesian House of Representatives to move forward with the Asset Forfeiture Bill (RUU Perampasan Aset).

For residents and commuters, the planned demonstrations could affect traffic around Senayan and other protest locations.
People traveling through central Jakarta are advised to check traffic conditions before leaving, consider alternative routes and allow additional time for their journeys.
