JAKARTA-President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has acknowledged that Indonesia is endowed with enormous natural wealth, yet a significant portion of that wealth has failed to benefit its people. According to Prabowo, much of the nation’s wealth has been stolen and transferred abroad over the years due to weak governance and systemic corruption.
Prabowo made the statement while attending the Mujahadah Kubro marking the centennial of Nahdlatul Ulama in Malang, East Java, on Sunday (February 8, 2026). Speaking before a massive religious gathering, he emphasized that Indonesia’s core problem is not a lack of resources, but the failure of its elites to safeguard national wealth.
Since assuming office on October 20, 2024, Prabowo said he has closely studied strategic national data. From this review, he concluded that an alarming amount of Indonesia’s wealth has been lost, siphoned out of the country through corruption, fraud, and the exploitation of public resources.
The president stressed that citizens should not be afraid to speak the truth. If wrongdoing exists, he said, it must be openly acknowledged and corrected. Courage to confront injustice, Prabowo noted, is a crucial foundation for building a just and dignified nation.
Prabowo reaffirmed his firm commitment to fighting corruption without hesitation. He vowed that the government under his leadership would not compromise in confronting corruption, manipulation, and the plundering of public assets, declaring that he would not retreat “even a single step” in this battle.
He added that his interactions with ordinary citizens have reinforced his understanding of their hopes. Indonesians, Prabowo said, aspire to live in a country that is truly independent, fair, and prosperous, not merely one that claims such ideals in rhetoric.
Calling for unity, Prabowo urged all elements of society to stand together in eradicating poverty and protecting national wealth. He expressed confidence that Indonesia’s resources are more than sufficient to ensure prosperity for all citizens—if managed wisely and honestly.
In closing, Prabowo voiced optimism that Indonesia can overcome inequality and corruption. With clean governance and responsible management of state assets, he said, the vision of shared prosperity for the Indonesian people remains well within reach.
