Jakarta-The Indonesian government has confirmed that subsidized fuel prices will not increase despite continued volatility in global crude oil prices.

Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia and Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa agreed to maintain subsidized fuel prices during discussions on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

The decision follows the direction of President Prabowo Subianto and reflects the government’s effort to protect household purchasing power amid uncertain global energy markets.

Bahlil said fluctuations in international crude oil prices would not immediately be passed on to consumers of subsidized fuel. The policy is expected to provide greater certainty for households and businesses that rely on affordable fuel.

The government is also preparing several fiscal scenarios to manage potential changes in global oil prices. Finance Minister Purbaya said the government is considering various conditions, including crude oil prices rising above US$80 per barrel.

However, subsidized and non-subsidized fuels have different pricing mechanisms. Non-subsidized fuel prices may still be adjusted based on global oil prices and other market factors.

The government is also reviewing the distribution of fuel subsidies to make sure they reach the people who need them most. One of the policies under discussion involves tighter controls on subsidized gasoline, including Pertalite.

The proposed restrictions could affect higher-income consumers. The government has discussed the possibility of limiting subsidized fuel access for households classified within the highest economic groups.

For consumers, maintaining subsidized fuel prices could help control monthly transportation expenses. It could also reduce pressure on household budgets caused by higher fuel and transportation costs.

However, consumers should continue to monitor developments in global crude oil prices, non-subsidized fuel prices, inflation, and government subsidy policies because these factors can influence transportation and living costs.
